ABOUT BASEBALL breaks down & previews the 2005 Seattle Mariners.

2004 Record: 63-99, last in AL West
Home Ballpark: Safeco Field
Manager: Mike Hargrove

2005 Prediction: 86-66, 2nd in AL West

Meet the New Mariners:
Adrian Beltre (3B) from Dodgers
Yuniesky Betancourt (IF) via free agency
**Ricky Gutierrez (2B) via free agency from Red Sox
**Jeff Nelson (RP, rhp) from Rangers
Pokey Reese (2B) from Red Sox
**Aaron Sele (SP, rhp) from Angels
Richie Sexson (1B) from Diamondbacks
Aaron Taylor (RP, lhp) from Rockies

Nice Knowing Ya:
Sean Green (RP, rhp) from Rockies
Edgar Martinez (DH) Retired

Lineup:
Ichiro Suzuki RF
Jeremy Reed CF
Adrian Beltre 3B
Richie Sexson 1B
Bret Boone 2B
Raul Ibanez DH
Randy Winn LF
Miguel Olivo C
Pokey Reese SS

Outlook: The M's signed two big offensive names in the offseason: Adrian Beltre and Richie Sexson.

Add them to a group already featuring Ichiro and Bret Boone - and you're looking at a much-improved lineup. Lefty Jamie Moyer is 42, but is a soft tosser with a lot left in his arm. The Seattle staff, which also includes the talented Joel Pinerio, is not as brutal as some say. Thereare a few hurlers here capable of double-digit wins.
